On Thursday night, Osceola County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to two serious personal injury accidents within a half hour of each other.

The first crash occurred at 8:49 p.m. at the intersection of US-10 and 220th Avenue in Richmond Township.

The Sheriff's Office states they found a 68-year-old man unresponsive driving one vehicle and a 42-year-old woman in and out of consciousness pinned in another.

They add that the woman was driving east on US-10 and stopped for the red light at the intersection.

The man, also traveling east, failed to stop and struck the other vehicle. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, as witnesses state the man was driving erratically by witnesses prior to the crash.

The woman was extricated from her vehicle and both were taken to Reed City Hospital and are in stable condition.

The second crash occurred at 9:18 p.m. on 5th Avenue north of 22 Mile Road in Marion Township.

A Marion area couple reported passing a vehicle in the ditch against a tree. As they passed the vehicle, they saw the engine compartment was on fire. When they approached the vehicle, they saw the 17-year-old driver was unconscious.

While his wife called 911 to summon help, the 54-year-old passerby was able to remove the man from the truck and, with the assistance of other motorists who stopped, pulled the driver to safety. Within minutes of the call to 911 the fire fully engulfed the pickup.

The Sheriff's Office states found the 17-year-old was traveling south on 5th Avenue when he struck a deer in the road. After that, the vehicle then went off the road and hit a large tree. It is unknown if the 17-year-old hit the tree due to a mechanical issue caused by hitting the deer or if the driver was attempting to avoid the deer.

He was airlifted by helicopter to Munson Hospital in Traverse City by Aeromed with head injuries and is currently in stable condition.

He did not suffer any injuries related to the fire due to the quick action of the passerby.
