The Attorney General has released a statement following a May 31st Facebook post shared over 42 thousand times on Facebook claiming to be a press release from the Office of the Attorney General.

The press release claiming to be from the Attorney General shares 3 separate warnings all related to gang activity.

The post claims that while driving on a rural end of the roadway, they saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. They did not stop and called the Canton Police Department.

The post then claims the police told the that this is part of a gang initiation.

Dana Nessel came forward today, stating that her department never said this.

The Canton Police Department also confirmed the alleged incident described in the post did not result in a report with the agency.

The post also claims drivers can dial 1-1-2 to reach police dispatch, which is not true.

Anyone who needs to reach law enforcement should dial 9-1-1.

The post has since been taken down since the Attorney General shared her warning this afternoon at 2 p.m.
