A state investigation launched after George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer has determined that the department engaged in a pattern of race discrimination.

The Department of Human Rights launched its investigation barely a week after the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

State investigators reviewed a decade's worth of information, including data on traffic stops, searches, arrests and uses of force, and examined policies and training.

Minnesota's Department of Human Rights announced the finding of the nearly two-year probe on Wednesday.

The department says it will work with the city to negotiate a consent decree, and will include input from community members, police officers, city staff and other stakeholders.

Human Rights Commissioner Rebecca Lucero said during a news conference after the report was released that it doesn't single out any officers or city leaders.
