Jan 6 Panel to Vote on Trump Aides' Contempt
The House committee investigating the Capitol riot said Thursday that it had set a vote for next week to consider contempt of Congress charges for two aides of former President Donald Trump.
The committee will meet Monday to discuss whether to recommend referring Trump's former trade adviser, Peter Navarro and former White House communications aide Dan Scavino for potential prosecution
The committee wants to question Navarro about his promotion of unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
He sought to use executive privilege to avoid that, but the Biden administration denied such claims.
The committee believes Scavino was with Trump during the riot and can shed light on the then-president's communications.
If the committee votes to hold the men in contempt, the full house will also consider the issue.
From there, it's up the Justice Department whether to prosecute.
