Shepherd School Bus Crash
A Sergeant from the Michigan State Police Office Mount Pleasant Post, was roughly a half mile from the crash when it occurred, they respond and began to render aid. The initial report and witness statements revealed that the school bus went off the roadway to the left, then re-entered the road and continued off the right side of the road causing the bus to overturn.
18 students were transported by bus to the Shepherd High School where a parent reunification center had been established.
A trauma team from a local hospital, fire and rescue personnel, and a liaison from Ithaca schools attended to the students until they were reunited with family. The driver and an adult are receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. Eight students were transported to a region hospital - with seven being treated for non-life threatening minor injuries and one for a broken arm.
Five of the six students transported to a mount pleasant hospital for minor injuries were released after treatment and one is being held for observation. Numerous first responding agencies assisted at the scene thank you to all who helped!
