RICHLAND, Wash. -- The Richland Police Department said they have a 39 year-old man in custody; they believe he was the one who opened fire at a Fred Meyer grocery store.

Dispatchers received a call reporting yelling and possible gunshots in the store at 11:03 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene just one minute later, but one of the people who was shot, 38 year-old Justin Krumbah, had already expired. A store employee lying next to him was also injured in the shooting and is said to be in critical condition.

Employees and customers were escorted out of the store to a parking lot while officers went aisle by aisle searching for the shooter or other victims. Neither were found. The shooter had already fled.

Hours later, police said a suspect was arrested without incident on Interstate 90 halfway to Seattle, more than 100 miles northeast of where the shooting took place.

Police said that man has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. His bail has been set at one million dollars.

Police, A.T.F. and sheriff's deputies from across the Tri-Cities area in Eastern Washington were called to help, an area of more than 280,000 people, where nearby schools were also placed on lockdown.
