ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- Mother nature has been very good to the Leader Dog organization by providing large litters of adorable Labradors and Labrador crosses.

That means that new volunteer puppy raisers are urgently needed and they are taking those who have been a “dog person” for years and humans who have never owned a dog! With the help of a puppy counselor and members of your puppy raising group, you’ll spend a year with a cute canine at your side as you both learn the skills needed for the puppy to be ready for its formal guide dog training.

This opportunity is open to families, couples and singles within driving distance of Leader Dog’s campus in Rochester Hills, Michigan. For people who are blind or visually impaired, the loss of sight is only the beginning of a life-changing reality. As the simplest to the most complex everyday tasks become daunting, these individuals often become depressed, anxious and isolated. Leader Dog is the answer for thousands of people in critical need.

To learn more, go to LeaderDog.org and choose the “Volunteer” tab to apply or register for an orientation session, or call (888) 777-5332.

But similar opportunities exist nationwide with groups like Paws4People, Canine Companions and Freedom Service Dogs of America, just to name a few.
