Around 1:44 PM Wednesday afternoon, Wexford County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to M-55 at South 33 Road a personal injury crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a passenger car in Cherry Grove Township.

A preliminary investigation suggests that a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 21-year-old Cadillac woman, pulled into the path of an eastbound semi-tractor trailer, driven by a 22-year-old Lake City man.

It appears the woman was attempting to make a left turn off South 33 Rd to travel west on M-55 and failed to yield to the eastbound semi-tractor trailer.

The woman was entrapped in the wreckage of her vehicle from the impact.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Munson Cadillac Hospital for injuries. The woman was later flown to Munson Traverse City hospital for further treatment. The extent of injuries is not known for either driver. Neither vehicle had additional passengers.

The semi-tractor trailer was loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of bagged salt. As a result of the crash the semi-tractor and trailer came to rest on its side, blocking the M-55 roadway. The cargo had to be off-loaded onto another semi-tractor trailer before it could be up righted and removed. M-55 between $ 33 Rd and Benson Rd was closed for approximately five hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleaned up.

A tan colored pit-bull mix named Thor that was in the cab of the tractor trailer, ran off after the crash, and is missing, If anyone sees the dog, please contact Wexford County Central Dispatch.
