Emergency crews responded to a serious single-vehicle crash in Pere Marquette Township around 3:43 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred when a 2011 BMW, traveling southbound on Lakeshore Drive north of Chauvez Road, left the right side of the road and struck several trees, trapping the driver and a front seat passenger.

Upon arrival, Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies found both front seat occupants unconscious and seriously injured.

The driver, a 20-year-old Hart man, was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital with serious injuries.

The front seat passenger, a 17-year-old from Ludington, was flown to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids with critical injuries.

An 18 year-old Oceana County female, who was in the back seat, was treated at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary report indicates that speed and alcohol are potential factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
