NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Spencer Rattler passed for 304 yards, and No. 2 Oklahoma beat Tulane 40-35 in a game that was relocated from New Orleans because of Hurricane Ida. Oklahoma led by five in the fourth quarter and Tulane had possession, but quarterback Michael Pratt ran for 12 yards on a fourth-and-13 play. Tulane turned the ball over on downs, and Oklahoma ran out the clock. Oklahoma’s Gabe Brkic tied an FBS record with three field goals of 50 or more yards. Pratt passed for 296 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay Rays rookie shortstop Wander Franco was back in the starting lineup for today’s game against the Minnesota Twins after clearing MLB concussion protocols. Franco extended his on-base streak to 33 games with a seventh-inning walk Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox. He left after the at-bat with a headache. He was checked by a trainer after pointing toward his head several times earlier in the plate appearance. The 20-year sat out last night’s game with the Twins.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oscar Otte (OH’-teh) has given the U.S. Open men’s bracket a trio of qualifiers in the fourth round for the first time since the tournament began keeping qualifying records in 1982. It’s also the first time at any Grand Slam tournament that three male qualifiers reached Week 2 since the 1995 French Open. Otte, a German who is ranked 144th, beat Andeas Seppi of Italy 6-3, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. He is the lowest-ranked man to get to the fourth round in New York since No. 179 Jiri Novak in 2006. Qualifiers Peter Gojowczyk and Botic van de Zandschulp won third-round matches yesterday. Otte’s next opponent will be Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini.

NEW YORK (AP) — Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic (BEN’-chich) and French Open semifinalist Maria Sakkari are back in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows after straight-set victories. The 11th-seeded Bencic eliminated No. 23 Jessica Pegula (peh-GOO’-luh) 6-2, 6-4 in a rematch from the Summer Games. Bencic was a semifinalist at the 2019 U.S. Open. The 17th-seeded Sakkari collected her eighth victory this season against an opponent ranked in the top 20 by defeating two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova (kuh-VIHT’-oh-vuh) 6-4, 6-3. Sakkari hit nine aces, was never broken and has made it to Week 2 at the U.S. Open for the second year in a row.

UNDATED (AP) — Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman and broadcaster Tunch Ilkin has died. He was 63. Ilkin played 13 of his 14 seasons for the Steelers, making a pair of Pro Bowls in the 1980s for Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll. Ilkin spent 23 years as part of the organization’s radio broadcast team. He revealed last fall that he was battling Lou Gehrig’s disease and had been hospitalized recently with pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and three children.
