Dodgers pass Giants for NL West lead...Rays' streak ends
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves, 4-3 to move a half-game ahead of the San Francisco Giants atop the NL West. Justin Turner and AJ Pollock singled in the tying and go-ahead runs through the same infield hole in the eighth inning. Dansby Swanson’s solo homer gave the Braves a 3-2 lead in the eighth before Atlanta saw its lead in the NL East sliced to two games over Philadelphia.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers came away with a 5-2 win over the Giants in San Francisco to wrap up a three-game sweep. Jace (jays) Peterson broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the seventh, two innings before Lorenzo Cain belted a two-run homer. The Brewers handed the Giants their fifth loss in six games and moved 10 1/2 games ahead of Cincinnati for first place in the NL Central.
UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays ended their nine-game winning streak and saw their lead in the AL East cut to seven games over the Yankees. Jarren Duran had a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning as the Boston Red Sox pulled out a 3-2 win over the Rays. The Yankees were 4-1 winners against the Los Angeles Angels as Gerrit Cole racked up a season-high 15 strikeouts over seven innings of his AL-leading 14th victory.
UNDATED (AP) — Houston's lead in the AL West remains five games over Oakland after both teams lost on Wednesday. Logan Gilbert and four relievers combined on a nine-hitter as the Seattle Mariners blanked the Astros for the second straight day, 1-0. Detroit’s four-game slide is over after Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer and drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the seventh inning of the Tigers’ 8-6 decision over the Athletics.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox earned a 6-3 win over Pittsburgh as rookie Gavin Sheets slammed a three-run homer and a solo shot hours after being recalled. White Sox starter Carlos Rodon (roh-DAHN’) pitched five innings of one-run ball. The AL Central leaders won for the fifth time in six games and are 22 games above .500 for the first time since September 2006, keeping them 10 games ahead of the Indians.
