After striking a deal with moderates Tuesday, House Democratic leaders muscled their party's multi-trillion-dollar budget blueprint over a key hurdle.

The narrow 220 to 212 vote was a first step toward drafting President Biden’s $3.5 trillion rebuilding plan this fall.

It came after a turbulent 24 hours that brought House proceedings to a standstill as moderates demanded the House first approve a nearly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package, but they were eventually won them over by Speaker Nancy Pelosi by agreeing a vote on the legislation would come no later than September 27th.

Pelosi has set a goal of passing both packages by October 1st.

House committees are already fast at work drafting legislation to fill in the details of the $3.5 trillion package.
