The Pentagon says it remains focused on evacuations of civilians as the U.S. continues to withdraw from Afghanistan by August 31st.

During a press conference Monday, Major General Hank Taylor says 37,000 civilians have been extracted from the country since August 14th.
.
That brings the total of civilians extracted to about 42,000 so far.
.
Evacuees include American citizens, U.S. permanent residents, special immigrant visa applicants and American allies.
.
The individuals are taken to U.S. bases and not directly into the United States with each individual evacuated undergoing a screening process.
.
This past weekend, the Department of Defense activated its Civil Reserve Airfleet, asking for commercial airlines to assist with withdraw efforts. These civil reserves will not fly directly into Afghanistan, rather they are expected to take civilians from American bases to the United States or other destinations.

President Biden is expected to meet with the Group of Seven Tuesday on talks about Afghanistan.
.
No official word on whether the August 31st deadline would be extended if more evacuations are needed.
