Jags cut Tebow...Adams signs with Seahawks...Embiid extended
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Tim Tebow’s (TEE'-bohz) comeback and NFL career appear to be over after the Jacksonville Jaguars waived the 34-year-old, who was trying to make the team as a tight end. The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner switched from quarterback to tight end in hopes of rejuvenating his pro football career. Tebow's blocking ranged from awkward to awful in Jacksonville’s preseason opener against Cleveland.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have signed safety Jamal Adams to a four-year contract extension that NFL Network reported is expected to be worth up to $70 million and includes $38 million guaranteed. The dealis is expected to make the former All-Pro the highest-paid safety in the NFL. Adams had been “holding in” since the start of training camp, attending meetings but hadn’t been participating in on-field activities.
UNDATED (AP) — Joel Embiid (joh-EHL’ ehm-BEED’) is now under contract for six more years after inking a new extension with the Philadelphia 76ers. A person familiar with the situation says it’s a four-year, $196 million extension that takes Embiid through the 2026-27 season. The All-Star center led the Sixers to the best regular-season record in the Eastern Conference before losing to the Atlanta Hawks in the second round.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks have acquired swingman Evan Fournier in a sign-and-trade with Boston. The Knicks also get two future second round draft picks, the Celtics receive for cash considerations and Fournier gets a four-year, $78 million contract. Fournier spent last season with the Orlando Magic and the Celtics, averaging 17.1 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 42 games.
UNDATED (AP) — The NHL will allow teams to put sponsor patches beginning with the 2022-23 season. A person will knowledge of a memo sent this week said the league's board of governors unanimously approved the move, which will restrict sponsor patches to no more than three by five inches. The NHL added helmet ads last season, which largely allowed teams to make sponsors whole during the pandemic for previously negotiated agreements.
