Clippers, Hawks knot series...Knights take opener
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers have tied their Western Conference semifinal series at two games apiece with 118-104 victory over the visiting Utah Jazz. Kawhi (kah-WY') Leonard and Paul George each scored more than 30 points for the second straight game, finishing with 31 apiece to lead the victory. Marcus Morris added 24 points and went 5 of 6 on 3-pointers for fourth-seeded Los Angeles.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Hawks evened their Eastern Conference semifinal series at two games apiece with a comeback win over the Philadelphia 76ers, 103-100. Trae Young overcame a cold shooting start to score 25 points, including a floater that gave Atlanta the lead with 1:17 remaining. The 76ers led 60-42 late in the first half before Atlanta rallied.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves and the Vegas Golden Knights picked up their fifth straight win by stifling the Montreal Canadiens, 4-1 in the opener of their Stanley Cup semifinal series. Shea Theodore had a goal and an assist for Vegas, which also received tallies from Alec Martinez, Mattias Janmark, and Nick Holden. The Canadiens had won seven straight since falling behind three games to one in their first-round series against Toronto.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Mets won a matchup of National League division leaders as David Peterson allowed one hit over six shutout innings of a 5-2 decision over the Chicago Cubs. Peterson was 0-4 with a 6.32 ERA in his last nine starts, including 0-2 with a 9.88 ERA in his previous four appearances. Dominic Smith hit a solo homer and Kevin Pillar (pih-LAHR’) added a two-run double off loser Jake Arrieta as New York beat Chicago at home for the first time in eight games.
CHICAGO (AP) — The two best teams in the American League squared off before the Tampa Bay Rays homered three times in a 5-2 victory over the White Sox in Chicago. Austin Meadows, Brandon Lowe (low) and Randy Arozarena (ah-roh-zah-RAY’-nah) went deep to power the Rays to their fourth consecutive win. Tampa Bay starter Tyler Glasnow left after four innings with right elbow inflammation.
