UNDATED (AP) — NBA shot-blocking king and Utah Jazz legend Mark Eaton has died. The Jazz did not give the cause of his death today at age 64. The 7-foot-4 center twice won the NBA defensive player of the year award. He spent his entire career with the Jazz, led the league in blocks per game four times and his average of 5.6 per contest in 1984-85 remains the highest average since the NBA started officially tracking that statistic. Eaton’s No. 53 was one of the first jerseys retired by the Jazz.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story has landed on the injured list due to inflammation in his right elbow. The team announced the move before today's doubleheader in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. The Rockies also reinstated infielder Matt Adams from the injured list. Story was taken out on Thursday in New York against the Mets. He’s off to a slow start this season. He’s hitting .255 with five homers. The two-time All-Star is in the final year of his deal.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Hendrick Motorsports’ quest to pass Petty Enterprises as the all-time winningest NASCAR Cup Series race team got off to a good start today when Kyle Larson captured the pole for the Coca-Cola 600. Ricky Stenhouse will start second, followed by Hendrick teammates Chase Elliott and William Byron. Car owner Rick Hendrick is tied with Richard Petty with 268 Cup Series owner wins entering tomorrow’s race. Chevys took six of the top seven starting spots for NASCAR’s longest race, a grueling 400-lap marathon at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis 500 will open its gates to 135,000 spectators tomorrow for the largest sports event since the start of the pandemic. That’s about 40% of the capacity at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and leaves 100,000 empty seats in the permanent grandstands. But it will still easily be the largest sporting event in the world in terms of attendance since the pandemic began.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Novak Djokovic has warmed up for the French Open by beating Alex Molcan 6-4, 6-3 to take his 83rd career title, coming on home soil at the Belgrade Open. Top-ranked Djokovic struggled on serve in the first set as he was broken three times by Molcan. The Slovakian qualifier is ranked 255th and was playing his first tour-level final. It’s the third career title for Djokovic in his home nation after he won the Serbia Open in 2009 and 2011. Djokovic is drawn against Tennys Sandgren of the United States in the first round at Roland Garros.
